Qingdao Sino-German Institute of Intelligent Technologies (IFP) is a public institution approved by and registered with the Qingdao Municipal Supervision and Administration Bureau for Public Institutions. IFP is part of the Sino-German Ecopark, the first demonstrative cooperation project for sustainable development jointly initiated by the Chinese and German governments. IFP has a subsidiary company, "IFP (Qingdao) Technology & Development Co. Ltd." , at its Qingdao location and an offshore research center in Germany.

IFP is jointly headed by Prof. Dr. Axel Kuhn (as the German director and the chief scientist) and Prof. Dr. Dianjun Fang (as the Chinese director). Prof. Dr. Dianjun Fang is a National Distinguished Expert in Logistics in China. He is the chair holder and supervisor of doctoral students at Tongji University in Shanghai. He also serves as the China Chief Representative of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML. Prof. Dr. Axel Kuhn is a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) and is the Senior Scientist at the Technical University of Dortmund. IFP also has dozens of German experts and professors who specialize in the field of intelligent technologies as academic partners.

IFP is a public welfare, non-profit organization. It is an international cooperation platform based on the German "Fraunhofer model", which combines applied research with the fostering of doctoral students in engineering and with the actual demand of industrial entities. This then produces applied cutting-edge technologies and highly qualified professional talents for the local social and industrial sectors.

IFP aims to integrate the activities of R&D, talent cultivation, transformation of scientific & technological development, and the incubation of innovative start-ups by working with universities, enterprises, research institutes, and the local government, with the result of creating an innovative ecology that covers the resources of both home and abroad. With an international perspective, open-mindedness and a pioneering spirit, IFP strives to make contributions to the technological progress, industrial development, and talent fostering in the region, as well as contributing to the technological exchange and economic cooperation between China and Germany.
